The Patient Participation Group

of Danby Surgery

The Patient Participation Group  [PPG] is a group of people who are registered at Danby Surgery. They take an active interest in health care and the practice in general. From its conception in 2005 the PPG meet quarterly with the practice staff and doctors, they have sent out surveys to patients, invited a wider audience to a annual meetings, gathered and produced informative brochures on the arrangements for out of hours medical care and of the activities which take place locally.  These are particularly useful to new residents. Topics, at meetings, vary from ideas and queries by patients, practice updates, advancement and changes in the medical world. The group does not deal with complaints as the surgery has a complaints procedure.

The PPG is an important way for patients to relay any views on the provision and development of services at the surgery and for the doctors and practice manager to respond and advise if there are changes within the practice. NHS England requires that every practice nationally, should have a PPG. Our practice is ahead on this as it was formed before it became mandatory. Currently the group has ten members with over eighty on a virtual list, which is used for surveys and similar.

Our practice is one of the twenty-two practices, which form the Hambleton, Richmondshire & Whitby Clinical Commissioning Group [CCG]. This group holds the funding for the healthcare at acute hospitals and also for prescribed medicines. As the doctors in the area are the best judge of their own patient requirements, this enables your needs and the doctors’ commitments to be centre of all discussions on healthcare and its funding on a local level. The practice is also a member of the Heartbeat Alliance which has been formed with all the other local practices, to enable government funding to be used for certain provision of services in the locality.

Danby Surgery website – http://www.danbysurgery.nhs.uk provides details of the services it offers. There is also a link to the digital newsletter for which both the Patient Group and surgery staff provide information. There is provision for patients to book appointments and repeat prescriptions via https://patient.emisaccess.co.uk A request for this service can be made at reception.

The PPG would like to encourage and welcome patients to give their views on subjects relating to the surgery by contacting any member of the group. The full list of members contact details is given on the PPG wallboard in the waiting room of Danby Surgery.  The group can also be contacted by email.
